Engineer Demi Getschko, former Operations coordinator at RNP, was elected last month for the Board of Directors of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (Icann), the institution in charge of the political and technical aspects of Internet management worldwide.

Getschko, who is now an assistant at the presidency of Fapesp and the technology director of Agência Estado, will be the second Brazilian in Icann's fifteen-counselor board. In October, engineer Vanda Scartezini, former Information Policy Secretary at the Ministry of Science and Technology (MCT), took the position that belonged to Ivan de Moura Campos. This is the first time in Icann's history that two Brazilians will be part of this institution's Board of Directors.

The aim of the Board is to make the policies of use and technical specifications of the registration of domain names, IP addresses and protocols used by the applications. Thus, the directors will be supposed to defend the interests of the regions that elected them.
