Brazil has 134 million internet users, which represents 74 percent of the population aged 10 years and over. This means a quarter of the population, or 47 million people, remain disconnected, according to the TIC Domicilios 2019 survey.

For the first time in the annual survey, more than half of the population (53%) living in rural areas said they use the internet, although this is still lower than the internet penetration found in urban areas (77%). The mobile phone is the main form of internet access, used by almost all users (99%), and 58 percent of Brazilians access the internet exclusively through the mobile phone.

A fixed internet connection is present in 71 percent of Brazilian households, while more than 20 million households do not have an internet connection.

For the fourth consecutive year, there has been a reduction in the home PC penetration, from 50 percent in 2016 to 39 percent in 2019. In the last four years, access via cable or optical fibre increased from 24 percent (2015) to 44 percent (2019), while DSL connections fell from 26 percent to 6 percent of internet subscribers in that period.
