Brazilian Network Information Center

The Brazilian Internet Steering Committee - CGI.br maintains working groups and coordinates several projects in areas of fundamental importance for the Internet operation and development in the country. In order to execute its activities, the CGI.br has created a non-profit civil organization named "Brazilian Network Information Center" - NIC.br.

Registro.br

Since 1995, the Registro.br executes some of the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee attributions, such as the activities of domain names registration and the administration and publication of DNS for the <.br> domain. In the beginning of January 2008, there were 1,240,000 domains registered in the country. Registro.br also provides the services of distribution and maintenance of Internet addresses. For LACNIC - Latin American and Caribbean Internet Addresses Register, Registro.br offers the services of engineering and hosting.

CERT.br

Internet security is one of the major concerns of the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee, that maintains since 1997 the CERT.br - Brazilian Computer Emergency Response Team. Besides incident handling, CERT.br offers support to network administrators and Internet users in Brazil, writes documents in Portuguese about network security and produces statistics about security incidents and spam. It also maintains an early warning project with the goal of identifying new trends and alerting Brazilian networks involved in malicious activities. CERT.br works to increase the security awareness, acts in the correlation of events in the Brazilian Internet and helps the establishment of new Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs) in Brazil.

CEPTRO.br

The Center of Study and Research for Network and Operational Technologies develops studies about innovation and improvement of the technical quality in the Internet's usage, and develops researches about network technologies designed to further the Internet's dissemination over the country, constantly seeking for opportunities to aggregate value to assets and services related to the Internet. Among the projects maintained by CEPTRO.br we would like to point out PPT.br (the structure for traffic exchange points that offers connection to its participants in metropolitan areas) and NTP.br (Network Time Protocol, which defines a way for a group of computers to communicate with each other and set their clocks. The time standard of NTP.br is based on the atomic clock of the National Observatory, which defines the Brazilian Official Time).

CETIC.br

The Center of Studies on Information and Communication Technologies CETIC.br is responsible for producing indicators and statistics about the availability and usage of the Internet in Brazil, and regularly publishes information about the web's growth in the country. Those data are critical in order to monitor and assess the social and economical impact of ICTs and also to allow the comparison between the realities in Brazil and other countries.

W3C.br

The Brazilian World Wide Web Consortium (W3C.br) office was stablished in 2007 to increase interaction with the Portuguese-speaking community. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is an international consortium where Member organizations, a full-time staff, and the public work together to develop Web standards. The Brazilian office mission is to reinforce global objectives of web for everyone, on e on everything, knowledge based, trustworthy and reliable.

Antispam.br

Antispam.br site is an impartial source of information about spam, maintained by CGI.br. This site is committed to inform the end user and the network administrator about spam and how to prevent and fight this problem.
